DIY: Essential Oil Hair Pomades

DIY: Style Your Hair with these Essential Oil Pomades

Recipe #1

  1. In a double boiler, melt both the semi solids, i.e., beeswax and shea butter. If you don’t have a double broiler, it shouldn’t be a problem. Substitute it with a Pyrex bowl by placing it over a saucepan of boiling water.
  2. Next, add in the jojoba and the other essential oils into the mixture and mix well.
  3. Take the mixture off the heat and let it cool until it hardens.
  4. Now, whip the pomade until its texture becomes smooth and fluffy. You can also use a hand mixer for that. This will make it easier to scoop the batter into jars, which is your next step.
  5. Store the jars in a cool, dark place.
  6. Use sparingly since the pomade has a lot of wax and butters in it.

Recipe #2

  1. In a double broiler, add the beeswax, castor oil, glycerin, and arrowroot.
  2. Mix them well and wait for them to melt until they have blended together.
  3. Remove the mixture from heat and add in the essential oils.
  4. Mix well and pour the pomade into containers.
  5. Let it cool down so you can stir it once more. Doing so will result in a soft, loose textured pomade. It will also prevent the arrowroot from clumping up in the mixture.
